SELECTIVE RESIDENCIES
The exhibition Selective Residencies, presented within the framework of the 6th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and consisting of artworks from donations by important collector-donors and artists to the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, reveals places of encounter where dynamic and multidimensional relations were formed. Collectors’ houses, artists’ workshops and art galleries are considered as “imaginary residencies” in which actions have taken place that have shaped a new concept of art, aesthetics, history and culture. Collectors and artists, expatriates, immigrants and those wandering the five continents, shaped a polyphonic art scene impregnated with the colour and aroma of different places. In such a context, places on the map and moments in history illustrate creative artistic circles and tangential passages of an internationalized art scene. The exhibition of the permanent collection of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art as a voyage to “selective residencies” constitutes a grid of gestures, narratives and works that highlight the tendencies and experiments that contributed to the redefinition of the role of art in society and broadened its boundaries.
